The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is a technical analysis tool used to measure the speed and change of price movements. It helps traders determine whether an asset is overbought or oversold.
RSI is calculated using the average of up and down closing prices over a specific period, usually 14 days. The formula is:
RSI = 100 - (100 / (1 + RS))
Where RS (Relative Strength) is the average gain of up periods divided by the average loss of down periods.
An RSI value above 70 suggests that the asset might be overbought, while an RSI below 30 indicates that it might be oversold. These thresholds help traders predict potential reversal points in the asset's price trend.
By monitoring the RSI, traders can gain insights into the momentum of price movements and make more informed decisions about when to enter or exit trades.
